Robert L. "Pete" GarramoneRetired freelance photographer specializing in drag racing images.

Began shooting drag racing in 1953 but started serious coverage of the sport in 1959 with a 35mm Pentax H-2 camera and two lenses: a 28 mm and 200 mm Takumar lenses. Never used a zoom lens.

Photos were published in many racing publications throughout the sixties and his images are still sought after by authors of historical drag racing books.

Most all of his images were shot in Colorado.

There were no guard rails in those days and "Pete" stood out on the track for most of his action shots. He learned to pre-focus, shoot the picture and back pedal off of the track once the picture was taken as seen here.

Getting The Great Shot On The Starting Line

"Rodder's Journal" ( issue twenty seven) devoted 17 pages to Garramone's freelance career as a drag photographer.

Some of the books that feature "Pete's" pictures are shown here.
